Why do we have a School's Council?
The School's Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run. The School Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each Councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.

Who can be a member of the School's Council?

We have an active School Council with two pupils from each class. Each councillor is elected by their classmates at the beginning of the school year. This year the deputy head girl is chairing the school council.

What do we do?
Members of the Council take part in discussions and votes and also feed back any relevant information to their class. At times they are requested to ask their class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the Council. Members meet each month.

What have we done so far?

School Council had a meeting at the end of last term and agreed that Maths Passports could still be used by those children who wanted to continue with them. 

They were concerned about the possibility of accidents involving children being hit by skipping ropes and arranged a rota so that the 'football area' could be used for skipping for a couple of days during the week.  This rota is now displayed in the playground and seems to be working well.

They also expressed a desire to organise fund-raising activities - one each term, alternating between raising for the school and raising for outside charities, which they would like to choose.
